Here at Grow & Glow, we never really shut up about just how powerful having a mailing list can be.

As a creator, we think that it can be one of the best tools that you can have in your arsenal. And not only if you already have millions of followers, but as a way of creating a closer connection with your readers, no matter what your audience size is!

It can help you in terms of making sales, building traffic, promoting an event and, of course, as a way to creating something valuable for your followers that drops right into their inbox. What’s not to love?

To find out more about why Vix thinks every blogger needs a mailing list, check out this blog post.

However, as important as we think it is to build a list and start sending emails out to the people on it, we also that’s easier said than done! One of the biggest hurdles that our members tell us they face is knowing which platform to use. After all, there are about a billion options out there, each offering something slightly different.

That’s why we wanted to break down our absolute favourite email marketing platforms, their pros, their cons and who they’re suited for.

Best email marketing platforms for creators

Mailchimp

Overview of Mailchimp

Let’s start with the one that you’ve probably all heard of: Mailchimp.

Now, we’ve used Mailchimp in the past and there’s no denying that it can be a good place to start if you’re just getting into email marketing. It’s known for being one of the most easy-to-use platforms, with over 1 BILLION emails a day sent using the service!

Impress stuff, huh?

Whilst design options are relatively limited and their templates can feel slightly restrictive at times, Maailchimp does offer some more advanced features that can be handy as your list grows: contact segmenting, autoresponders, time-zone based sending, A/B testing and more!

Another huge benefit of Mailchimp is just how helpful their staff are. They have a brilliant live chat and email response time if you ever need help, alongside different resources to get you started. So, again, it’s a good place for beginners.

Mailchimp Pricing

Mailchimp offer a whole host of different plans, ranging from being completely free to costing up to around $600 a month for those with over 50,000 subscribers!

There’s guaranteed to be a package that matches your needs. The free version of the site is pretty good, though you will likely outgrow its capacities as you start using email marketing more and more.

Who is Mailchimp best for?

Mailchimp is a brilliant place for beginners due to the tools it offers, its intuitive interface and the wealth of help available. However, in our experience, most email marketers don’t stick around on the platform for too long before heading elsewhere.

ConvertKit

ConvertKit Overview

We’ve used Convertkit in the past here at Team Grow & Glow, so we would definitely recommend it. Don’t worry, we’ll get onto what we’re currently using later in this post!

Consider ConvertKit your step up from Mailchimp. It’s certainly not as intuitive to use, but it does offer a much wider range of capabilities and makes it relatively easy to create email automation workflows. These are the sequences of emails that someone gets automatically after performing an action. For example, signing up to receive your newsletter.

It uses a visual builder, meaning you can actually see how your email sequences will play out.

Again more advanced than the likes of Mailchimp, Convertkit also offers detailed subscriber management and email segmentation.

ConverKit Pricing

Pricing for ConvertKit is not dependent on features: No matter what plan you’re on, you’ll receive the exact same interface. Instead, it varies dependent on your subscriber number. For anything up to 1,000 subscribers the price is $29, going up to $79 for between 3,000 and 5,000 subscribers.

They do offer a 14-day free trial, though. So, if you’re interested, you can try before you commit to a monthly fee!

Who is ConvertKit best for?

We’d recommend ConvertKit if you’re looking to get more out of your mailing list. It’s a great way to create a personalised experience for your subscribers dependent on what you know about them, through the brilliant segmentation and automation tools.

MailerLite

Overview of MailerLite

MailerLite is one of the tools that not many people have heard of! However, we think it’s well worth mentioning since it really strips email marketing back to the essentials.

Perhaps the simplest of all, it is extremely intuitive to use, meaning that you can quickly and easily create emails. Its templates are pretty flexible and minimalist, so there’s not much fuss when it comes to designing!

MailerLite Pricing

Mailerlite’s free plan means that you can use the programme at full functionality up to 1,000 subscribers and 12,000 emails. This goes up to $50 a month if you have anywhere up to 10,000 subscribers.

Who is Mailerlite best for?

If you’re busy with your blog and your business, Mailerlite is super quick and easy to use. We’d recommend it for anyone who is looking to throw a simple but effective email together.

Flodesk*

Flodesk Overview

Now, finally, onto our absolute favourite of the bunch: Flodesk!

We’ve used plenty of programmes in our time, but we’ve found that Flodesk perfectly balances ease of use, beautiful design and advanced features to make what we think is the BEST email marketing platform for creators.

Seriously, we can’t sing its praises enough!

The best part of the platform is how you can easily make each and every email on-brand. Flodesk offer a tonne of pre-made templates that look super modern and high-quality, with drag-and-drop editing. You can change colours, add social media links, insert your logos, easily change fonts and just seamlessly make your email look FIT. No coding required.

On top of that, it offers list segmentation and similar advanced features that makes it easy for the platform to grow with you, as you use your mailing list in a more strategic way.

Pricing for Flodesk

In keeping with their super simple platform, pricing is just as easy to understand. They have a flat rate of $38: It doesn’t matter how many subscribers you have or what features you need!

However, the best part is that we’ve got a cheeky little affiliate link for you, that can get you 50% off your subscription. You can get your hands on that here*.

Who is Flodesk best for?

Erm, everyone?

We do seriously think that Flodesk is a great platform for you, no matter where you are on your email marketing journey. However, it’s particularly great if you don’t want the hassle of dealing with any code or complication when it comes to visual design.

So, there you have it! Those are the four platforms that we’d recommend for email marketing.
